When it comes to money, it’s never just about numbers—it’s about people, families, and futures. That’s the philosophy behind Steven Dougherty of Mayer Private Wealth Management, where his focus is on building relationships first and financial plans second. By truly getting to know each client—their personality, risk tolerance, time horizons, and unique circumstances—he crafts personalized strategies to help families feel confident and secure about their financial journey.
With a passion for wealth management and financial strategies, Steven has been in the field for seven years but has had a love for investing and behavioral finance for over 25 years. He shares, “When I had the opportunity to learn and work in this industry where I could help people plan and invest for their future, I jumped at the chance.”
Steven offers a wide range of services, including investment management, financial planning, divorce financial planning, and financial counseling. Whether guiding families through long-term investments or providing financial clarity during major life transitions, the firm is grounded in the belief that financial success starts with building trust with his clients by knowing their personality traits to understand what will truly matter to their family.
“My biggest inspiration in life is my family,” Steven says. “In my work, it’s continuing to learn as much as possible so I can provide real value to clients. What I enjoy most is being able to make an actual difference for the client’s family.”
An important part of that mission is education—both for adults and for the next generation. “Financial literacy is so important,” he explains. “When families not only seek out information and opportunities to learn, but also pass that knowledge on to their children, they’re creating an interest and understanding in making, spending and investing money—and setting them up for a lifetime of healthy money habits.”
“Interestingly enough, when it comes to investing, oftentimes the smartest decision is doing nothing,” Steven notes. As a financial professional, that decision is made typically after much research. He continues, “Many people feel like they need to act—and ultimately buy or sell at the wrong times or for the wrong reasons. It’s funny how much work can go into deciding to do nothing.”
One area of special focus for him is helping clients navigate life transitions. “I particularly like working with individuals pre- and post-divorce,” he shares. “It’s rewarding to help them feel confident about their income and assets as they move forward both personally and financially.”
At home near Milton, Steven enjoys life with his wife, three daughters, two dogs, two horses, and a pair of chickens. Outside of work, he stays active with fitness, traveling, homebrewing beer, and stays involved in the community by coaching soccer and serving on nonprofit arts boards.
With a people-first approach, Steven Dougherty of Mayer Private Wealth Management continues to grow as a trusted partner for families in the community—helping them not only manage their finances but also build brighter futures.
