Business Spotlight: Milton Montessori School - Cultivating Excellence in Education

June 26, 20264 min read

Milton Montessori School was established in 2008 by a local family who sought an authentic Montessori education for their own children. When their search came up short, they took matters into their own hands, turning a personal vision into a thriving educational community. Now, under the stewardship of Head of School Nora Arrieta and Educational Coordinator Liliana Lemos, the school embodies the very ethos of Montessori — promoting independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Inspired Leadership and Passionate Educators

With over 20 years of experience in Montessori education, with eight years of experience at Milton Montessori, Nora Arrieta serves as the Head of School, bringing a unique blend of educational leadership and personal passion. Originally from an accounting background and a CPA by profession, Nora's journey into Montessori stemmed from her personal discovery of the curriculum’s impact when a child amazed her with an unconventional artistic appreciation at a young age. This profound moment was the catalyst that drove Nora to explore Montessori education in depth.

Liliana Lemos, the Educational Coordinator at the school, supports the environment by refining curricula and ensuring the authenticity of the Montessori experience. With Montessori certifications and prior experience as a Montessori field consultant, Liliana contributes valuable insight into sustaining and evolving the school’s programs.

The Montessori Magic

The Montessori philosophy, pioneered over 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, is at the heart of the school's teaching practices. It emphasizes giving children independence and preparing an environment that naturally fosters learning. In such settings, children are not just memorizing information; they are engaged and developing crucial skills like creativity, communication, compassion, curiosity, and courage — what Milton Montessori refers to as the five Cs.

The school facilitates this hands-on learning through tactile materials in all areas, which help children visually and physically grasp and understand academic concepts. This method nurtures an intrinsic understanding that far transcends rote learning.

Expanding Horizons

Having started as a preschool and nursery, Milton Montessori School has responded to strong community demand by expanding its offerings up to the middle school level. This expansion fulfills a growing need for continued Montessori education, enabling students to progress through their entire primary and secondary schooling within a familiar educational system.

The school's first middle school class opened recently, allowing students to continue benefiting from the program's continuity, which helps cultivate emotional intelligence and social skills in a consistent environment. The longevity and commitment of the teaching staff, many of whom have been at the school for over five years, contribute to a stable learning environment that cherishes individual growth.

Preparing for a Bright Future

The school's curriculum blends Montessori principles with the mandated Georgia State Standards, ensuring that students achieve academic rigor while maintaining the Montessori spirit of exploration and self-directed learning. By middle school, students are engaged in real-world applications of their education, such as microeconomics and project-based learning tasks that involve real business scenarios. This prepares them for high school and beyond, equipping them with skills to adapt and succeed in an ever-changing world.

Community and Connection

Social skills development is an intrinsic part of the Montessori approach at Milton. Classic Montessori principles like 'grace and courtesy' teach children how to interact politely and resolve conflicts effectively. Children practice these skills in mixed-age classrooms, which encourage older students to naturally take on leadership roles by mentoring younger peers.

While technology is an unavoidable aspect of the modern world, Milton Montessori introduces it with intention and only when students demonstrate readiness, focusing on real, purposeful applications rather than mere entertainment.

The Impact and Future Growth

Milton Montessori doesn't just equip students academically; it also instills them with crucial life skills, such as curiosity and independence, to navigate future challenges confidently. As the school continues to develop its facilities — including the addition of a media center, science lab, and athletic spaces — its focus remains on delivering impactful, holistic education that stays true to its foundational values.

Milton Montessori School stands as a beacon of enriched education with thoughtful leadership. Prospective families are invited to explore the enriching environment that distinguishes this school by scheduling a tour on the school's website, miltonmontessori.org. With a steadfast commitment to expanding its impact, the school aims to deliver an authentic Montessori experience to more families while maintaining its core values and educational excellence.
